Mike McClure

Belly Of The Beast

by Mike McClure
Mike McClure

Biography:

Hailing from Stillwater, Oklahoma, The Great Divide was a grass roots working band that attempted to meet the country music industry head on with its work ethic, tenacity, genuine likeability, and hard-hitting style. Over the past fifteen years The Great Divide steadily progressed the hill of the unforgiving music industry, proving not only their musical talents, but also their business savvy before disbanding in 2007.

In 1993 the group formed their own record label, publishing company and operating company, and began recording.

Verse 1
G A#
Down in the belly of the beast
C G
Washed out on a rip-tide
G A#
I'm burnt out to say the least
C G
Yeah I've been down on the dark side
Verse 2
I took a turn down a twisted alley
I wound up on a dead-end street
Nothing but vultures were in my valley
Nothing but anchors around my feet
Chorus
F C G
Somebody tried to draw the water up
F C G
But the bottom of the well was stone
F C G
And the rain won't fall oh the shame of it all
F C G
The fields are drier than the bone
F C G
They're coming hard and heavy on my left side
F C G
Coming slow and easy on my right
F C G
And the blue-blood breed and the demon seed
F C G
Will lie down together tonight
REPEAT INTRO
Verse 3
They followed me when I left the city
Kept my trail for fourteen days
And giving up was just not in me
Darken their hearts as I slipped away
Verse 4
I made it down to the edge of the ocean
Truth'll tell itself in time
And behind every fortune
Is an even greater crime
CHORUS
They're coming hard and heavy on my left side
Coming slow and easy on my right
And the blue-blood breed and the demon seed
Will lie down together tonight
