So Sad

E G#m
I waited all that morning to hear her say I love you
A B
So sure I was so certain, it was left unspoken
E G#m
My heart, it was breaking, she turned back the curtain
A B
She said nothing when she left me, she left me so heartbroken and
E G#m A B
So sad so sad
So sad so sad

Yes I waited all that mornin' to hear her say I love you
In the mornin' light she glistened like a ruby in a stickpin
Then she whispered something into the wet red-lettered window
She said nothing she left me so heartbroken
I was so sad so sad
So sad so sad

Shortys in the poolroom Billys in the chute
Jack is at the track with some old lady with some loot
Willie sits and wonders at the words he cannot rhyme
I am not in prison I am only doin' time

A C#m
And Blue Eyes died in Vegas when they blew away the Sands
F#m E
And Elvis died in Memphis, boys, they nailed him in one hand
A G#m
Haley died in Corpus Christi, died without a dime
F#m B
I am dead in Tennessee, they buried me alive

And I am so sad
so sad, so sad
The best I had so sad
Its what I have
So sad so sad

Yes I waited all that morning and so many mornings after
So many lonely hours staring at the rafters
Until I would close my eyes and feel you next to me
But with the sun so sure to come will go my sweetest sleep
And I am so sad so sad
So sad, so sad
