Michigan Rattlers

Illinois Sky

by Michigan Rattlers
Michigan Rattlers

Biography:

Michigan Rattlers is an American country-folk duo comprising Graham Young and Adam Reed.

Upholding a time-honored songwriting tradition, Michigan Rattlers recount human stories through a soundtrack of Americana punctuated by countrified rock 'n' roll and folk. The subjects of their 2016 self-titled debut EP practically live and breathe between Graham Young's rustling guitar and Adam Reed's percussive upright bass. Born in Petoskey, MI and based in Los Angeles, the duo's music plays out like a film.

[Intro]

G Cadd9 Em7 D (x2)

[Verse]

G Cadd9
Well we thought we were good at being cool.
Em7 D G
And we thought we had learned how to live like men
Cadd9
Drinking beer on the back porch
Em7 D
Smoking blues one after another
G Cadd9
Calling out to the pretty babies
Em7 D
Dancing out under them street lights
G Cadd9
Praying to whatever Gods we had, oh
Em7 D Cadd9 D
Honey don’t let me be alone again tonight

[Chorus]

G Cadd9
Yeah as much as we love this town
Em7 D
.....Hell it always had a way
G Cadd9 Em7 D
Of bringing us right back down

[Verse]

G Cadd9
Well I had my eye on a pretty girl
Em7 D
Once in a while she was looking back at me
G Cadd9
She’d come and go like the CTA
Em7 D
Every time I had her, well I thought she’d stay
G Cadd9
Lost her Daddy when she was young
Em7 D
I’d get close but in the morning she’d be gone
G Cadd9
She told me I reminded her of him
Em7 D Cadd9 D
I bet she tells the other boys the same damn thing

[Chorus]

G Cadd9
Yeah as much as we love this town
Em7 D
.....Hell it always had a way
G Cadd9 Em7 D
Of bringing us right back down
G Cadd9
Yeah as much as we love this town
Em7 D
.....Hell it always had a way
G Cadd9 Em7 D Dsus4 D
Of bringing us right back down

[Bridge]

Cadd9 G
Yeah well you go your way
D Cadd9
And I’ll go mine
G D
Drive down the coast in the summer
Cadd9 G D Cadd9
Midwestern boys out on our own
G D
Headed for a life of treasure
Cadd9 G D Cadd9
Two-Hearted Ale running through my veins
G D Cadd9
Thoughts of this room running through my brain
G D Cadd9
Heading out when the morning comes
G D Dsus4 D
And brother it’s been a good run

[Verse]

G
Well them late night talks probably saved our lives
Em7 D Cadd9 D
Looking up at that Illinois Sky
Cadd9 D
Oh that Illinois sky
Cadd9 D
Oh that Illinois sky
Cadd9 D G
Oh that Illinois sky
