Michigan Rattlers

Evergreen

by Michigan Rattlers
Michigan Rattlers

Biography:

Michigan Rattlers is an American country-folk duo comprising Graham Young and Adam Reed.

Upholding a time-honored songwriting tradition, Michigan Rattlers recount human stories through a soundtrack of Americana punctuated by countrified rock 'n' roll and folk. The subjects of their 2016 self-titled debut EP practically live and breathe between Graham Young's rustling guitar and Adam Reed's percussive upright bass. Born in Petoskey, MI and based in Los Angeles, the duo's music plays out like a film.

[Intro]
Fmaj7/C C G x4

[Verse 1]
Fmaj7/C
Well the sun is beating down the black top
C G Fmaj7/C C G
My hands are aching, my head is falling off
Fmaj7/C
And I can't seem to sleep past nine
C G Fmaj7/C C G
Crying eyes over wasted time
Fmaj7/C
And the older I get the more I see
C G Fmaj7/C C G
If you walk out the door there's no re-entry
Fmaj7/C
So where do I stay and when do I go?
C G Fmaj7/C C G
These are the questions I really wanna know

[Chorus]
C G Fmaj7/C
So now I'm burning down the avenue
C G Fmaj7/C
At a hundred miles an hour
C G Fmaj7/C
Oh I'm burning down the avenue
C G Fmaj7/C
And I'm scared I ain't got much longer
Fmaj7/C C G
With you

[Instrumental]
Fmaj7/C C G x3

[Verse 2]
Fmaj7/C
And back to the place where I grew up
C G Fmaj7/C C G
With stacks of books at the TV volume up
Fmaj7/C
I always dreamt of a bigger place
C G Fmaj7/C C G
Now I'm wondering why I wanted to escape this
Fmaj7/C
Cause my old dog ain't here no more
C G Fmaj7/C C G
Just sitting on the shelf with the ones that came before him
Fmaj7/C
Yeah so now just sit down and watch a film with me
C G Fmaj7/C C G
I need you here desperately

[Chorus]
C G Fmaj7/C
So now I'm burning down the avenue
C G Fmaj7/C
At a hundred miles an hour
C G Fmaj7/C
Oh I'm burning down the avenue
C G Fmaj7/C
And I'm scared I ain't got much longer
C G Fmaj7/C
Oh I'm scared I ain't got much longer

[Bridge]
C G Am Fmaj7/C
And well I close my eyes and I see everything
C G Am Fmaj7/C
See an old used car and a broken bike in an overgrown yard
C G Am Fmaj7/C
I see my friend walking through the field to the evergreen
C G Am Fmaj7/C C G
Where we'll drink too much and cry about everything

[Instrumental]
Fmaj7/C C G x3

[Chorus]
C G Fmaj7/C
So now I'm burning down the avenue
C G Fmaj7/C
At a hundred miles an hour
C G Fmaj7/C
Oh I'm burning down the avenue
C G Fmaj7/C
And I'm scared I ain't got much longer
C G Fmaj7/C
Oh I'm scared I ain't got much longer
G Fmaj7/C
With you
