Michael Martin Murphey

Children Of The Wild World

by Michael Martin Murphey
Michael Martin Murphey

Biography:

Austin Texas in the 1970s saw the rise of a number of artists and Michael Murphey (as he was known then) is one of them. Carolina In The Pines and What's Forever For were chart hits for Michael, but over the years he's proven another song was the most prophetic - he really did just want to be a Cosmic Cowboy and in the later years he's filled the niche of Cowboy singer. Still his voice is a strong instrument and he's a likable performer.

[Verse 1]
D
You probably come from Canada
D G D
Where the cold wind chased you down
D A
Is that a touch of snow upon your wings
Bm D
Are you headed southward bound
D
Move quickly wild bird
G D
The hunter comes from town
D A
He longs to see you on his wall
A Bm D
You match his mantelpiece in brown
D
Faster wild bird
D G D
The sun is sinking down
D A
I?d love to ride your noble wings
A Bm D
I would utter not a sound

[Chorus 1]
G A D
There must be some kind of blue sky somewhere
G A D
God made especially for you
D A
Children of the wild winds
Bm
Go there now
G A D
Take what?s left of living for you

[Verse 2]
D
You probably come from Asia
D G D
Where the seas are deep and clear
D A
When you rise to break the rolling waves
A Bm D
Your body glistens like a mirror
D
Faster great blue one
D G D
It?s the fisherman I hear
D A
There?s a pretty price upon your head
A Bm D
They?re paying well for you this year
D
Faster great blue one
D G D
Your darkest storm is near
D A
I?d love to ride your great blue tail
A Bm D
All your secrets I?d hold dear

[Chorus 2]
G A D
There must be some kind of blue sea somewhere
G A D
God made especially for you
D A
Children of the wild waves
Bm
Go there now
G A D
Take what?s left of living for you

[Verse 3]
D
You probably come from Idaho
D G D
Where the cool air treats you right
D A
Where you roam the sauntered mountains
A Bm D
In your savage delight
D
Move quickly brave bear
D G D
The builder scales your heights
D A
Your home to him?s worth millions now
A Bm D
So there?s nothing he won?t try
D
Faster brave bear
D G D
The moon is losing light
D A
I?d love to run the trail with you
A Bm D
Scream your courage through the night

[Chorus 3]
G A D
There must be some kind of mountain somewhere
G A D
God made especially for you
D A
Children of the wild lands
Bm
Go there now
G A D
Take what?s left of living for you

[Chorus 4]
G A D
There must be some kind of new world somewhere
G A D
God made especially for you
D A
Children of the wild world
Bm
Go there now
G A D
Take what?s left of living for you
