Matthew Ryan

Still Part Two

by Matthew Ryan
Matthew Ryan

Biography:

Matthew Ryan (born November 7, 1971) is an American singer-songwriter hailing from Newark, Delaware whose music can be roughly characterized as alternative country. Ryan also collaborated with Neilson Hubbard to form the band Strays Don't Sleep. Ryan's voice has been described as a "hushed rasp, with words catching like vows destined to be broken - one of modern music's most potent whispers."

Perhaps the most underrated singer/songwriter of the past 12 years, Matthew Ryan arrived on the music scene in 1997 with Mayday.

Matthew Ryan: Still Part Two

[VERSE 1]
C F
In the house of the lie we were living
Am F
You lost your tongue and in my touch I lost all feeling
C F
I saw the sun falling small upon your shoulder
Am F
I lit your smoke, we barely spoke, the days got colder

[VERSE 2]
C F
I took my things to a flat in the suburbs
Am F
I put your ring in the folds of a long verse
C F
Now your blue scarf, your green eyes, the great sadness
Am F
They often dwell, recall and swell, a wild tempest

[CHORUS]
C F
I can't hold you but I'm still kissing you
Am F
I don't want to but I'm still missing you
C F
Oh still, oh still
Am F
I carry you still, I guess I always will

[VERSE 3]
C F
And in these hours that unwind with such effort
Am F
Amid this hoax, that swirls and floats, upon the weather
C F
Some hearts get numb till they become frozen hopeless
Am F
But this I swear, I will live there, beyond this slowness

[VERSE 4]
C F
I feel my sleep on the verge of a bright dream
Am F
Where all is well and cherry light warms a dark street
C F
There your hand will fall to mine safe with comfort
Am F
And there your lips will rise to me till they whisper

[CHORUS]
C F
I can't hold you but I'm still kissing you
Am F
I don't want to but I'm still missing you
C F
Oh still, oh still
Am F
I carry you still, I guess I always will
C F
I guess I always will, I guess I always will
Am F
I guess I always will, I guess I always will
C F
I guess I always will, I guess I always will
Am F
I guess I always will, I guess I always will
