Mary Coughlan

Double Cross

by Mary Coughlan
Mary Coughlan

Biography:

Mary Coughlan (born 5 May 1956, County Galway, Ireland) is an Irish jazz and folk singer and actress. She has received great acclamation in her native country, for her emotional and heartfelt jazzy musical renditions.

This acclaimed Irish singer's troubled upbringing manifested itself in an erratic career path, including stints as a model and a street-sweeper.

After moving to London in the mid-70s she married and began raising a family, before terminating the union and returning to Galway with her children.

[Verse 1]
G D
I wake up in the morning,
C D G D
I get out of bed and drag my makeup on.
G D/F# Em Am
I walk out on the street. My ev'ry exit's covered.
G D C
I hitch up my pants and I fake it just like a man.

[Chorus]
Am D
Ev'ry hold that I had on time,
Am D
ev'ry dream that I thought was mine,

Well, it's all quite forgotten now - [hold pause]

lost without the double cross of you.

Like my coffee I've grown cold.

ev'ry dream that I thought was mine,
