[Verse 1]

D
D
Let's build a boat
G
So we can sleep right where we sail
Em
You see a fish, I see a whale
A
Underneath this painted indigo

Oh, where should we go next?
D
Let's build a boat
G
So we can say we saw the ocean
Em
From our bedroom's cotton curtains
A
While I was looking out the window

Oh, I know that you wanna build it too

Em
[Chorus]
Em G
Don't pretend that you're not looking
D
For something more than growing up
A
Right now I should be writing flashcards

But I'm stuck on pastel skies and apple eyes that say too much
Em G
So won't you come and ride the waves, boy
D
We can go anywhere we please
A
And then instead of revising

We could sail to the horizon
-
And float out inside the sea

D

[Verse 2]
D
Let's build a castle
G
So we can rule it as we choose
Em
And I'll spend days just simply talking to you
A
And I won't worry if I don't know how to factorise

I'll blow the time off dandelions
D
Let's build a tree house
G
So we can hide up there forever
Em
We'll make a nest right out of feathers
A
And I will never have to choose

Oh, you know that you wanna build it too

D
[Chorus]
Em G
Don't pretend that you're not clueless

At what the hell you're gonna do
D
Right now I should be drawing mind maps

But I'm stuck on fairy letters
A
That make me think of you
Em
So won't you come and climb to me, boy
G
Coz we don't have to live like them
D
Instead of memorizing verbs

We could sail right round the world
A D
And make it back again

D G Em A (x2)
[Bridge]
D
Let's build a boat that's made for two
G
Oh, I know you want it just as much as me
Em
You're just afraid to give it all, in case you lose
D
But I'm not scared of falling
G
Oh no, I'm scared of being boring
Em
What if we never even try?

What if we never find out why?
A
What if we grow up without really growing down?

[Verse 3]
D
So please, please my darling
G
Just don't settle for what they want you to be

Coz you are extra ordinary already
Em
And I know there's so much more inside your reach
D
And I can't prove it's worth it
G
Coz it's not safe and I don't know where we'll end up

But hell, it's better than just waiting and taking
Em
The path they build for us

[Outro]
D
Coz I don't think I could bear it
G
If when we're old and faded peach
Em
We can't tell each other stories of when we tried and flied
A
And made the jumps nobody thought we'd reach

Coz life is made for living
D
So baby, oh, who knows what we'll be

Oh, but youth is meant for taking and for breaking
G
And for building up the beautiful we'll be
