Daffodil Mulligan

by Lynched
Lynched

Biography:

Lynched was a four-piece traditional folk group from Dublin, Ireland, who combine four-part vocal harmonies with arrangements of uilleann pipes, concertina, Russian accordion, fiddle and guitar. In 2016, the band changed their name to Lankum.

Formed as an experimental-psychedelic-folk-punk-duo by brothers Ian and Daragh Lynch in the early 2000’s, the group has gone through various incarnations and taken part in a number of musical projects, including recording for movie soundtracks and TV documentaries.

From their 2014 album 'Cold Old Fire', if you're a super folky or into your trad,
it's worth checking out

Written by Harry Donovan, who had also written Biddy Mulligan ( The Pride Of The Coombe )
and recorded in 1938 by Jimmy O'Dea, this tune is about Biddys' daughter Daffodil.
This song isn't quite as well known, but still a cracker of a tune, and a great drinking song.

Also. for those that don't know, the Coombe (it's pronounced Kooem)is an area of inner city
Dublin, with probably the greatest, funniest, quarest, people you could ever meet.

Check out the youtube link if you need help with how it goes

And as always, any mistakes are mine, drop me a line if you spot any glaring ones

Am not expecting this to bring a ton of ratings to my UG account,
but if you do like it, use it, or copy it, please take the time to rate it

I'm Daffodil Mulligan, Biddys' young girl

And the fellas all say I'm a peach and a pearl
G G G D
I was born at the daffodil time of the year
A A A D
So they just call me Daffy, Now maybe that's quare

G G G D G
For I'm sweet Daffodil Mulligan, I am
G G D D
All me ancestors come from the Coombe
D D D D
And I'm just such another, The spit of me mother
D D D ** RIFF **
The lady that lives in one room, (Down on Francis Street)
G G G D G
Sweet Daffodil Mulligan, Fresh Fish!
G G D D
Like the sweet Blarney roses that bloom
D D D D
I am bright, Hale and Hearty, The life of the party
D A G D G
I'm Daffy the Belle of the Coombe, Fresh Fish!

G G G G
It was in that pine forest, So shady and dim
G G D D
That I first met me Jemmy, So tall and so slim
G G G D
It was on an excursion, The girls all looked swell
A A A D
But I took the biscuit, And Jems' heart as well

G G G D G
For I'm sweet Daffodil Mulligan, I am
G G D D
All me ancestors come from the Coombe
D D D D
And I'm just such another, The spit of me mother
D D D ** RIFF **
The lady that lives in one room, (Down on Francis Street)
G G G D G
Sweet Daffodil Mulligan, Fresh Fish!
G G D D
Like the sweet Blarney roses that bloom
D D D D
I am bright, Hale and Hearty, The life of the party
D A G D G
I'm Daffy the Belle of the Coombe, Fresh Fish!

G G G G
We were married in August, When Jem was on strike
G G D D
So he took me to Bray on the back of his bike
G G G D
Now the strike is all over, And Jem bless his soul
A A A D
Has settled down steadily, Drawing the dole

G G G D G
For I'm sweet Daffodil Mulligan, I am
G G D D
All me ancestors come from the Coombe
D D D D
And I'm just such another, The spit of me mother
D D D ** RIFF **
The lady that lives in one room, (Down on Francis Street)
G G G D G
Sweet Daffodil Mulligan, Fresh Fish!
G G D D
Like the sweet Blarney roses that bloom
D D D D
I am bright, Hale and Hearty, The life of the party
D A G D G
I'm Daffy the Belle of the Coombe, Fresh Fish!
