Cold Old Fire

by Lynched
Lynched

Biography:

Lynched was a four-piece traditional folk group from Dublin, Ireland, who combine four-part vocal harmonies with arrangements of uilleann pipes, concertina, Russian accordion, fiddle and guitar. In 2016, the band changed their name to Lankum.

Formed as an experimental-psychedelic-folk-punk-duo by brothers Ian and Daragh Lynch in the early 2000’s, the group has gone through various incarnations and taken part in a number of musical projects, including recording for movie soundtracks and TV documentaries.

[Intro]
Bm

[Verse 1]
Bm E
We always sing, even when were losing
G E
'Cos Dublin's drone is hard enough especially when you're down and you're boozing
Em
We sing the Auld Triangle and then the Tommy Ryan
G A
'Cos all the world's a jail and we can't remember why

[Chorus]
Em Bm
Why we agreed to live and lie in embers of a cold old fire nobody remembers
D A Asus2 A
They hand the ashes back to me down the button factory, we're cattle at the stall

[Verse 2]
Bm E
We look for signs that Dublin's heart's still beating,
G E
That concrete and glass and peelers and mass, they haven't stopped the people from screaming,
Em
Being trapped by all the cameras you're inclined to stay at home,
G A
And forget some songs were written to remind you you weren't born

[Chorus]
Em Bm
Born to live and lie and die in embers of a cold old fire nobody remembers
D A Asus2 A
They hand the ashes back to me down the button factory, we're cattle at the stall

[Verse 3]
Bm E
We see the cracks under the foundation,
G E
Smouldering on the faces of the people on the drip of isolation,
Em
We hear the sounds come streaming across the crackling air,
G A
The broken words of swine who would tell us that we were

[Chorus]
Em Bm
Born to live and lie and die in embers of a cold old fire nobody remembers
D A
They hand the ashes back to me down the button factory, we're cattle at the stall
Em Bm
And when did we agree to live and lie and die in embers of a cold old fire nobody remembers?
D A Asus2 A
They hand the ashes back to me down the button factory, we're cattle at the stall.

[Bridge]
Bm G D A
Em Bm D A
Bm G D A

[Chorus]
Em Bm
And when did we agree to live and lie and die in embers of a cold old fire nobody remembers?
D A
They hand the ashes back to me down the button factory, we're cattle at the stall.

Em Bm
And when did we agree to live and lie in embers of a cold old fire nobody remembers?
D A Asus2 A
They hand the ashes back to me down the button factory, we're cattle at the stall.

Em
