[Verse]
G D
What can I say
Em C
Did I steal you away
G D Em C
From a life that you thought you would lead?
G D
All days can be strange
Em C
But then August is dangerous
G D Em C
Handing your heart to the heat

[Verse]
G D
A quiet line
Em C G D
I hope you can love me a long time
Em C G D
I'd hope you can see me through, I find
Em C G D Em C G D Em C
The light in your eyes to be bright

[Verse]
G D Em C
It started out West in some mountain state test
G D Em C
That I carried back east in my bag
G D Em C
And then on to you and the next thing I knew
G D Em C
My city had more than it had

[Verse]
G D Em C
"One day, nothing without Providence"
G D Em C
They'd sing, I hope you can love me
G D Em
A long way from home
C G D Em C G D Em C
Because that's where I'll be

[Verse]
G D Em C
And here's to downtown when there's no one around
G D Em C
In the saddest of bars on the block
G D Em C
We're changing the game, never the same
G D Em C
You can't argue with this little clock

[Verse]
G D
And you said you were fine
Em C G D
The ship is betrayed by its ensign
Em C G D
A good distance away, it will still shine
Em C G D Em C
And wave in the wind to be seen

[Verse]
G D Em C G D
Place me here in this minute of "Let's see"
Em C G D
I hope you can love who I might be
Em C G D Em C
I hope that the summer will last____

[Verse]
G D
A quiet line
Em C G D
I hope you can love me a long time
Em C G D
I'd hope you can see me through, I find
Em C G D
The light in your eyes to be bright
Em C G D
The light in your eyes to be bright
Em C G D Em C G D Em C
The light in your eyes to be bright
