[Intro]
F A C

F
well she's sittin right there on the chain link fence
F
standing at the park with the rest of her friends
A
and she looks so pretty, but she's only sixteen
C
I didn't know that when she smiled at me
F
now the boys are hunched over their electric guitars
F
lying in the grass out beside my car
A
follow her down to the dixie freeze
C
hold on, hold on, hold on to me

[Chorus]
Bb F C A
sweet girl, wont let go for the world
Bb F
cause I'm not from here
A D C Bb
and I'm afraid that I might never see you again

F A C

F
now it's the end of summer and I'm just twenty-one
F
been California for the last two months
A
and there weren't no girls like her out there
C
her boyfriend don't like me and I think that's fair

F
so I'm sittin right here on the chain link fence
F
when she smiles at me gonna take my chance
A
well I know the shows over but I wish you wouldn't leave
C
hold on, hold on, hold on to me
