Lou Reed

So Alone

by Lou Reed
Lou Reed

Biography:

Lou Reed (March 2, 1942 - October 27, 2013) was an American rock artist originally from Brooklyn, New York, USA. Especially while a member of the The Velvet Underground in the 1960s, Reed broke new ground for the rock genre in several important dimensions, introducing more mature and intellectual themes to what was then considered a largely simplistic genre of music.

In 1964 Reed moved to New York City and began working as an in-house songwriter for Pickwick Records.

She calls on the people
D Em
She says she doesn't want to be alone
Em
She says it's making her neurotic
A
But please don't mistake it for being erotic

Chorus

So alone, so all alone

G D
She says let's go for a walk
D Em
We'll have a drink and maybe we will talk
Em
And he thinks she has possibilities
A
If she could just put away her rosary -
A D A D A D A D
So alone Nobody wants to be alone

G D
But I just didn't know
D Em
I swear to you, I just didn't know
G D
I would never make you sad
D Em
If I had known I never would have Said those
D Am D Am D Am D Am
things to you ... You have to be crazy to say those things to you

G D
Let's face it I made a mistake
D Em
Well you know, fools rush in where angels take a break
Em
I Can't be smart all of the time
A
And anyway I didn't know you were making time Over him
A D A D A D A D
To tell you the truth I forget all about him

G D
And You know, I don't think it's nice
D Em
Asking one man about another man's vice
Em
I don't care if you pick my head -
A
As long as we end up in bed
A D A D A D A D
Alone Just the two of us alone

G D
I just didn't know
D Em
I swear to God
I just didn't know
G D
Can't you understand that it's frightening
D Em
When you hear women talking about castrating
D Am D Am D Am D Am
and hating men Who wants to know about how you hate men

Bridge:

Well You said now you wanted to dance
So now we're going to dance
You said that you weren't complete
But we're going to put you on your feet

F Am Am F F Am Am F
You said that you were very vexed
You told me to forget about sex
You said you liked me for my mind
Well I really love your behind

Get up and boogie, get up and dance

G D
Your points very clear
D Em
You're not one to cry into your beer
Em
Why don't we go to my place -
A
Believe me, I'm very chaste
A D A D A D A D
And I'm so alone
So all alone

G D
Sure all men are beasts
D Em
Hey, look, I'll sit here quietly and I'll stare at my feet
Em
I don't blame you for taking umbrage
A
With animals staring at your cleavage

A D A D A D A D
So alone We're so all alone

G D
Hey, do you mind if I turn out the light
D Em
Don't take offense, but why don't you spend the night
G D
I know your passions run very deep
D Em
But at this point we both need sleep

D Am D Am D Am D Am
So alone And who wants to be alone
