Look Homeward

Steamboat

by Look Homeward
Look Homeward

Biography:

Look Homeward is a family affair. Lee Anderson began playing songs of the rich North Carolina folk tradition while living in a cabin in Foscoe, NC. When he transferred to UNC-Chapel Hill to study religion, his brother Will picked up a banjo and the two found themselves performing at two main locations- bars and churches. Soon they learned that Will's lovely wife Lauren was a more talented singer than any of them, and she joined the band as well. "The Hunger and the Ghost" EP is a long time coming, and Look Homeward's debut release.

Am G C
To meet his wife the sea
Am G C
And there ain't nobody stealing
Am G C
For the currents course is free
Am G C
Yeah the currents course is free

Steamboat carry me
C. G C
To my delta home
Am G F C
Steamboat carry me
C G C
I've got rivers in my soul

Am G C
When we finally reach New Orleans
Am G C
I'm gonna dance with all the ghosts
Am. G C
I'm gonna swim in eerie waters
Am G C
And drink to every toast
Am G C
On the bank of the Mississippi
Am G C
There's a pantsuit preacher man
Am G C
Sayin come into the water
Am. G C
For the kingdom is at hand
Am G C
Yeah the kingdom is at hand

Steamboat carry me
C G C
I've got rivers in my soul

Verse 3

Am G C
In the finely layered darkness
Am. G C
In the warmest August night
Am G C
I skipped along the cobblestone
Am G C
And danced in all your light
Am G C
When I came upon a mansion
Am G C
I climbed up all its stairs
Am G C
But every mirror that I looked in
Am G C
I saw God standin there
Am G C
Yeah I saw God standin there

Chorus

Am G F C
Steamboat carry me
C G C
To my delta home
Am G F C
Steamboat carry me
C G C
I've got rivers in my soul
Am G F C
Steamboat carry me
C G C
To my delta home
Am G F C
Steamboat carry me
C G C
I've got rivers in my soul
C G C
I've got rivers in my soul
