Fred Lincoln "Link" Wray, Jr. (May 2, 1929 – November 5, 2005) was an American rock and roll guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist who became popular in the late 1950s.

Building on the distorted electric guitar sound of early records, his 1958 instrumental hit "Rumble" by Link Wray and his Ray Men popularized "the power chord, the major modus operandi of modern rock guitarists", facilitating the emergence of "punk and heavy rock". Rolling Stone placed Wray at No.

[Intro]

G Bm Em Em7 C Am7 G

[Verse]

G Bm Em Em7
I was born down in the country
C Am7 G
Down where the cotton grows
G Bm Em Em7
Turnin' off the main highway
C Am7 G
Goin' down that country road

G Bm Em Em7
There's a place down in the country
C Am7 G
Where the pine trees grow so tall
G Bm Em Em7
Walk across that old log bridge
C Am7 G
Stretching 'cross Black River Swamp

[Verse]

G Bm Em Em7
I can hear them bullfrogs croaking
C Am7 G
In the blackness of the night
G Bm Em Em7
Calling me back to my childhood
C Am7 G
Down here in Black River Swamp

G Bm Em Em7
Saw my name carved on a big oak tree
C Am7 G
Down there by the fishing hole
G Bm Em Em7
And the smell of old Black River
C Am7 G
Where the waters are deep and cold

G Bm Em Em7
I can hear the hound dogs howlin'
C Am7 G
Chasin' that old fox where I used to roam
G Bm Em Em7
Down there in the country
C Am7 G
Callin' me to Black River Swamp

G Bm Em Em7 C Am7 G

[Verse]

G Bm Em Em7
I can hear them hound dogs howlin'
C Am7 G
Chasin' that old fox where I used to roam
G Bm Em Em7
Down there in the country
C Am7 G
Callin' me to Black River Swamp

G Bm Em Em7
I was born down in the country

Down where the cotton grows
