Liam Clancy - The Rising Of The Moon

[INTRO:] C F C

[VERSE 1:]
G
"Oh, then tell me Sean O'Farrell, tell me why you hurry so?"
F C F C
"Hush me bhuachaill, hush and listen" and his cheeks were all aglow
G
"I bear orders from the captain, get you ready quick and soon
F C F C
For the pikes must be together by the rising of the moon"

[CHORUS:]

By the rising of the moon
G
By the rising of the moon
F C
For the pikes must be together
F C
By the rising of the moon

[VERSE 2:]
G
"Oh, then tell me Sean O'Farrell, where the gathering is to be"
F C F C
"In the old spot by the river, right well known to you and me
G
One word more for signal token, whistle out the marching tune
F C F C
With your pike upon your shoulder by the rising of the moon"

[CHORUS:]

By the rising of the moon
G
By the rising of the moon
F C
For the pikes must be together
F C
By the rising of the moon

[INSTRUMENTAL:] C G F C F C

[VERSE 3:]
G
Out from many a mud walled cabin, eyes were watching through the night
F C F C
Many a manly heart was throbbing for the coming morning light
G
Murmurs ran along the valleys like the banshee's lonely croon
F C F C
And a thousand pikes were flashing by the rising of the moon

[CHORUS:]

By the rising of the moon
G
By the rising of the moon
F C
And a thousand pikes were flashing
F C
By the rising of the moon

[VERSE 4:]
G
There beside the singing river, that black mass of men was seen
F C F C
Far above their shining weapons hung their own beloved green
G
Death to every foe and traitor, forward fife the marching tune
F C F C
And hoorah me boys for freedom, 'tis the rising of the moon

[OUTRO:] C G F C F C
