Les Vinyl

F For Effort

by Les Vinyl
Les Vinyl

Biography:

Les Vinyl is a rock and roll band. Their sound is upbeat but they’re cool about it. They don’t try too hard and they don’t over complicate things. The “standard” two guitars, bass, and drums set up, is a platform for songwriting that is familiar while still being, at times, unconventional. "Quirky and Catchy" are common descriptions of this very original Staten Island treasure.
Front-man and lead guitarist Casey Jost, a writer for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, applies clever wordplay over distinctive guitar parts.

Les Vinyl's F for Effort - Made popular by the What Say You Podcast.

Some of the Em chords might actually be E or E7, but my ear isn't good enough to tell. I like
the sound of E7 when transitioning to the chorus, but you might think otherwise.

Also, try intermixing C and Cm for a more interesting sound.

Intro G / D / C / Em x2

G D
I heard that Rome wasn't built in a day
C Em
Then how come everyone rushing to get ahead

G D
And if I seem to be reserved that's just my way
C E7
Your questions seem like you're interrogating me

B
Yeah, I try
C
Then again, I don't try
D
I get an F for effort
Em
I'll get a D next time

(interlude) G / D / Cm / Em

G D
I've heard the lemon metaphor four million times
C Em
And I don't stand for lemonade don't ask me why

G D
And would a beverage stand be a job that'd be desired
C E7
And where would I get the wood and should I try?

B
Should I try,
C
Then again, I don't try
D
I get an F for effort
E7
I get a sixty-five

B
Yeah, I try
C
Then again, I don't try
D
I get an F for effort
(Begin interlude below)
I might as well just...

(Interlude; 1/2 bar each)
D / C x4

(1 bar interlude)
G / D / C / Em x2

G D
I heard that currency don't grow like leaves on trees
C Em
Then how come my money comes and goes so seasonally

G D
And I wish farmers planted plants instead of thieves
C E7
My friend pays a ton of green for greener groceries

B
Yeah, she tries
C
Then again, she don't try
D
She gets an F for effort
E7
She'll plant a tree next time

B
Yeah, she tries
C
Then again, I don't try
D
I get an F for effort
E7
I'll get a D next time

B
Yeah, I try
C
Then again, I don't try
D
I get an F for effort
E7
I'll get a 65

B
Yeah, I try
C
Then again, I don't try
D
I get an F for effort

I might as well just...die
