Victims Of The Night

C F
Hmmm the searchin' fingers of the dawn
G C
Are slowly creepin' up the eastern sky
F
So I won't disturb your sleep
G C
And I'll just touch your cheek and leave without goodbye

F
Hmm but if you find regrets are waitin' for ya
In the early mornin' light
G F
Ah, don't blame yourself and don't blame me
G F C Bb F C Bb F
For we were only victims of the night

C F
Before you cuss the morning sun just pause
G C
And wonder are we really wrong
F
How many other lovers are awaking
G C
to face their own gray dawn

F
And they must also answer probin' questions
When the morning killed the night
G F
Yeah should they regret or could it be
G F C Bb F C Bb F
We all were only victims of the night

C F
As I leave you now you're smilin'
G C
And I know that I'm gonna remember you that way
F
I don't need hasty promises to cling to
G C
As I go to face that day

F
I only hope that I'll awake to find the embers
Still are burning bright
G F
And perhaps someday I'll find you and be grateful
G F C Bb F C Bb F
We were victims of the night
