Kev Carmody

Moonstruck

by Kev Carmody
Kev Carmody

Biography:

Kev Carmody grew up on the Western Darling Downs area of Southern Queensland. His early childhood was simple but happy, mixing mostly with stockmen, drovers, fencers, ring-barkers and timber-getters. His family, although poor lived largely off the land growing vegetables near the small three roomed ant-bed floored hut and hunting and catching everything from kangaroos to fish.

In 1956, when he was ten, Carmody was sent to a “Christian school” which he has described as “little more than an orphanage”.

Capo: 2

[Intro]
D Em7 G D

[Verse 1]
D Em7 G
When the western sky’s ablaze
D
And the sun lays down to rest
D Em7 G
When the curlew starts to cry
D
And the birds fly home to roost
D Em7 G
When the full moon begins to rise
D
Satin moon beams on my face
D Em7 G
Beauty of the night goes far beyond
D D
Far beyond both time and place

[Chorus]
Bm F#m
No-one’s lost who finds the moon
Em7 G
Or the sweetness of the wattle’s bloom
Bm F#m
Rebirth with the rain in spring
A Em7 G
Or the dingo’s howl on the autumn wind
D Em7 G
Spirit of the moon here calls me home ho ho ho home
D D
Spirit of the moon here guides me home

[Verse 2]
D Em7 G
Moon it draws me to the scrub
D
Night voices raised in song
D Em7 G
Past the water lilies bloom
D
In that tranquil billabong
D Em7 G
Walkin’ on the shadowed leaves
D
That are reflected by the moon
D Em7 G
To the rocks and hills an’ caves
D D
Where the dingoe’s pups are born

[Chorus]
Bm F#m
No-one’s lost who finds the moon
Em7 G
Or the sweetness of the wattle’s bloom
Bm F#m
Rebirth with the rain in spring
A Em7 G
Or the dingo’s howl on the autumn wind
D Em7 G
Spirit of the moon here calls me home ho ho ho home
D D
Spirit of the moon here guides me home

[Instrumental]

[Verse 3]
D Em7 G
Stars ablazin’ across the sky
D
In the brilliance of the Milky Way

I’m surrounded by the beauty

Of every night and every day

Walkin’ towards that morning moon set

Caress of moonlight on my skin

Knowin’ that freedom of not carin’
D D
Of why I’m goin’ or where I’ve been

Bm F#m
No-one’s lost who finds the moon
Em7 G
Or the sweetness of the wattle’s bloom
