Kettle Rebellion

Doomsday Evening

by Kettle Rebellion
Kettle Rebellion

Biography:

Kettle Rebellion was the first "full-band" incarnation of Mischief Brew. Formed in 2001, after the "Mirth" demo was unleashed, the band only played five shows in Philly, recorded eight songs in 2002, and that was that. The songs were never mastered nor released. A few years later, some kids were staying at Erik and Denise's house and one of them swiped the final mixes. He made up his own song titles (because they weren't listed), and put it on Soulseek as a "rare Mischief Brew record.

[Verse 1]
G G
Take me back to where the ale is golden
C G
And where the rum is black
G
Where the welcome's bright, where lamplights invite
C D
Through a doorway's thinning cracks
Bm A D Em
See the dancers swing by the windows
C G
Looking in from the falling snow
D
For I turned away to the break of day
G Em G Em C D
Singing, off to work I go

[Verse 2]
G
Well, there was no end to our unrest
C G
We couldn't leave that town too soon
G
'Til we found ourselves by the benches
C D
Our guardian, the moon
B A D Em
And then the skies grew all the blacker
C G
And rain came a'drumming down
D
And it fouled our nest and we got no rest
C B Am G Em G Em C D
Take me back to that fucking town

[Chorus]
Am D Em
Laughter, a song of the free
C G D G
Drink this toast proposed to thee
Am D Em
Laughter, a song of the free
C G D G
Drink this toast proposed to thee

[Verse 3]
G
Now we're standing by the clockworks
C G
A rope around our necks
G
Placing bets on what strange morning
C D
We shall greet after this rest
Bm A D
And it's late on doomsday evening
Em C G
And we slept all afternoon
D
Craving days of yore so feared before
C B Am G
Crying, "set, you sun and moon!"

G Em G Em C D

[Chorus]
C G D G
Drink this toast proposed to thee
C G D G
Drink this toast proposed to thee
C G D G
Drink this toast proposed to thee
C G D G
Drink this toast proposed to thee

C G G D C D

[Outro]
G Bm
Where were you when the gates were open?
C G
When the guard had sleepy eyes?
G Bm
When we first shattered our windows
C D
Running out into the night?
Em Bm
Did you rise to greet the morning?
C G
Did you lose all the bounds of time?
D D
Or were you selling off the present
C Bm G
For a morrow never nigh?
