Kathy Mattea - Coal Tattoo

CAPO: 1st Fret

INTRO: Am

Travelling on down that coal town road
F G Am
Listen to my rubber tires whine

Goodbye to Buckeye and White Sycamore
F G Am
I'm leaving you behind

C G C
Oh, I've been a coal miner all of my life
G F G
Laying down track in a hole__
Am
Got a back like ironwood, bit by the wind
F G Am
Blood veins as blue as the coal
F G Am
Blood veins as blue as the coal

INTERLUDE: Am F G Am

Well, somebody said, "That's a strange tattoo
F G Am
You have on the side of your head."

I said, "That's a blue mark left by the coal
F G Am
A little more and I'd have been dead

C G C
Oh, I love the rumble and I love the dark
G F G
Lord, I love the cool of the sled__
Am
But it's going down that blue road, looking for a job
F G Am
Travelling and looking ahead
F G Am
Travelling and looking ahead

INSTRUMENTAL: Am F G Am F G Am
C G C G F G Am F G Am F G Am

Some day when I'm dead and gone
F G Am
To heaven, the land of my dreams

I won't have to worry about losing my job
F G Am
To bad times and big machines

C G C
Oh, I've got no house, lord, I've got no job
G F G
Just got a worried soul___
Am
And a blue tattoo on the side of my head
F G Am
Left by the number nine coal
F G Am
Left by the number nine coal
