Jethro Tull

Skating Away

by Jethro Tull
Jethro Tull

Biography:

Jethro Tull is a progressive rock / folk rock band which formed in Blackpool, Lancashire, England in 1967. Their music is marked by the initially soulful and bluesy, and later expressively idiosyncratic, vocal style and unique lead flute work of frontman Ian Anderson, and their notable guitarist Martin Barre. Their songs feature unusual and often complex construction, incorporating elements of classical and celtic folk music, as well as art rock and alternative rock.

C G F A
Mean while back in the year one
C G F A
When you belonged to no one
C G F A
You didn´t stand a chance son
C G F D Dsus4 D
If your pants were undone

D G
´Cause you were bred for humanity
D Dsus4 G
And sold to society
D G
One day you´ll wake up in the present days
Csus4 Bb
A million generations removed from expectation of
D G A Asus4 A
being who you really want to be

G D
Skating away
G D
Skating away
G D
Skating away
G C G C D Dsus4 D
On the thin ice of a new day ay ay ay ay ay ay ay ay
G D
So as you push off from the shore
A Asus4 A
won t you turn your head once more
D Dsus4 D G
and make your peace with everyone
D A Asus4 A
For those who choose to stay will live just one more day
D Dsus4 D G
To do the things they should have done

G
And as you cross the wilderness
Em G D Dsus4 D G
a spinning in your emptiness you feel you have to pray
G Em G
Looking for a sign that the universal mind
D G A Asus4 A
has written you into the passion play

G D
Skating away

Skating away

Skating away
G C G C D Dsus4 D
On the thin ice of a new day ay ay ay ay ay ay ay ay
G D
And as you cross the circle line
A Asus4 A
well the ice wall creaks behind
D Dsus4 D G
you re a rabbit on the run
D A Asus4 A
And silver splinters fly in the corner of your eye
D
Shining in the setting sun

G Em
Well do you ever get to feeling
G Em D Dsus4 D
that the story s too damn real and in the present tense
G Em
Or that everybody s on the stage
G Em D G A Asus4 A
and it seems like you re the only person sitting in the audience

G D
Skating away

Skating away

On the thin ice of a new day ay ay ay ay ay ay ay ay
