June Tabor - Unicorns

CAPO: 3rd Fret

INTRO: Am Dm (4x) Am

Dm
We were travelling north to sing and play
G Am
For friends that we had never met
Dm
Been working hard, we didn't speak
G Am
Skies of grey threatened wet
C G Dm
And I dreamed I saw unicorns
Am C
Dreamed I saw them wild and white
G
Their restless beauty lit the world
Dm Am Am7
Like a star will light a winter's night

A D A
Pure as love with manes of milk
D A
They danced and pranced and cried aloud
D A
Bright as rainbows round the stars
C G D A A7 Am7
Their eyes were soft and sad and proud

Am Dm
And I wept for the wild and dirty world
G Am
To which this beauty now was lost
Dm
And cursed the hungry mind of man
G Am C
That feeds the future at such cost
G Dm
My head was bowed, my eyes were closed
Am C
In my ears their voices rang
G Dm
These few words lodged deep inside
Am Am7
In my very soul they sang

A D A
"We never went away
D E A
You always knew that we were near
D A C
Remember how to look for us
G D A A7 Am7
You'll find we were always here"

INSTRUMENTAL: Am Dm G Am Dm G Am C G Dm Am C G Dm Am Am7
A D A D E A D A C G D A

Am Dm
I raised my eyes to seek them out
G Am
But the world was empty all around
Dm
The rain came tumbling from the sky
G Am C
It drowned all dreams upon the ground
G
And they asked me why I wept
Dm Am C
Like one who for his dead love mourns
G
The only answer I could give
Dm Am Am7 A7
I dreamed that there were unicorns

A D A
"We never went away
D E A
You always knew that we were near
D A C
Remember how to look for us
G D A C
You'll find we were always here
G D A
You'll find we were always here"

OUTRO: Am Dm (4x) Am
