Joy Williams

Speaking A Dead Language

by Joy Williams
Joy Williams

Biography:

Joy Williams (born Joy Elizabeth Williams on November 14, 1982) is an American singer-songwriter. The winner of four Grammy Awards, Williams released her self-titled debut in 2001. She was half of The Civil Wars duo from 2009 until 2014.

Williams grew up in Santa Cruz, CA. At 17, she signed a recording contract with PLG/SonyBMG and moved to the friendly, muggy town of Nashville, TN. She co-wrote and recorded several albums and realized after 7 years of being on the road full time that it was song-writing that kept tugging at her heart.

Speaking a dead language- Joy Williams

B F# G# E
We built a tall, tall tower
Towards the sun, towards the sun
Took some words and built a wall
And called it love, called it love
B F# G#
Somewhere in all the talking, the meaning faded out

B F# G# E
Oh, I wonder when did it all stop making sense?
I don't understand
I remember, we were so sure, so innocent
Oh, but that was then
Can we ever go back again?
Can we ever go back?

B F# G# E
You're speaking a dead, dead language
You don't sound like yourself
I hope it's just lost in translation
So why don't you show, don't try to tell
B F# G#
Brick by brick, we started crumbling
Will I find you when it falls?

B F# G# E
Oh, I wonder when did it all stop making sense?
I don't understand
I remember, we were so sure, so innocent
Oh, but that was then
Can we ever go back?

Don't hold your breath
Look around
Try to add it up, pin it down
But you can't

B F# G# E
Oh, I wonder when did it all stop making sense?
I don't understand
I remember, we were so sure, so innocent
Oh, but that was then
Can we ever go back again?
Can we ever go back?

Unfortunately I couldn't get the chords for the bridge...you are more than welcome to
any errors...and to add chords for the bridge...
