Joshua Path

The Night I Saw God

by Joshua Path
Joshua Path

Biography:

Joshua Path began writing songs when he was in junior high school. But it wasn’t until he landed a gig as a camp song leader that he took his craft seriously. “I heard my songs being sung by the kids around camp,” recalls Path. “That’s when I realized I should give music a shot.”

After that pivotal summer, Path immediately formed a band and began recording demos, all the while polishing his live sound by performing in all the major clubs in the Los Angeles area.

The Night I Saw God by Joshua Path

This is a simple bar-chord bluesy song. Playing in the root-A position, you can
capo to any fret to suit your
singing style. Listen to the song (it is on his album "The Sugar Fields") to sort
out the strum pattern. In short, the
root bass note in each chord is hammered on/pull off the third fret. So in the A
position, the pattern would look
something like:
-----------------------------------------------------|
-----------------------------------------------------|
--3--3-3----3-----3-------3--------------------------|
--3--3-3----3-----3-------3-----repeat as necessary--|
--0--0-0--3-0--3--0--3----0--------------------------|
------------------------3----------------------------|
Both the E formation and D formation chords goes through the same basic bluesy
treatment as above.

The overall chord patter is basic: A-->D-->A-->E-->A There is a lot of palm muting and
pick strokes that don't
actually ring out the notes. It has a very dusky, hushed sound to it, perfect for
solo performances.

Enjoy! It is a fun and humorous song to play at a gig sometime.

A
The night I saw God, I was terminally ill
A
I was licking plug sockets just looking for a thrill
D
I was driving on the wrong side of the road
A
With a bomb in my brain I was dying to explode
E
I was aiming for the cliff when an angel showed me how to
A
Uh, baby, baby, oh baby, baby.

A-->E

A
The night I saw God, I had given up hope
A
I was standing on chairs and tying up ropes
D
Had my mouth full of juicy fruit and Listerine
A
But every girl I knew was in a porn magazine
E
till an angel showed up in a stretch limousine
A
And gave me uh, baby, baby, oh baby, baby.

D--->E--->D---->E

A
The night I saw God I was dying in bed
A
There were nurses and curses fighting inside my head
D
There were viruses in me that nobody could pronounce
A
Saw the reaper in the corner; he was waiting to pounce
E
They was gonna pull the plug when an angel announced I needed
A
Uh, baby, baby, oh baby, baby.

A-->D-->A-->E-->D

A
The night I saw God, The night I saw God
A
The night I saw God, The night I saw God
D
The night I saw God, The night I saw God
A
The night I saw God, The night I saw God
E
The night I saw God, The night I saw God
A
I got…

That should basically get you through the song, but you will need to listed to
Joshua Path's performance to sort out the strumming and singing.
