Josh Joplin Group

Dutch Wonderland

Josh Joplin Group

Biography:

Josh Joplin Group was a Georgia-based pop music band led by singer-songwriter Josh Joplin. Joplin, a self-proclaimed "dork" who nonetheless dropped out of school in tenth grade to become a folk singer like his hero Phil Ochs, brought the group its trademark combination of introspective lyrics, folk-rock melodies, and lead vocals that, to many, sound identical to those of R.E.M. singer Michael Stipe (to the point that one Joplin song, "Happy at Last," begins, "I sound like Michael Stipe and I dream like Carl Jung").

Josh Joplin Group - Dutch Wonderland

[Intro]
G

[Verse 1]
Bm Em C
Beneath the snow lies a dream that I once had
G D C
And I know that I'll never go back
G Bm Em C
To the Christmas coloured neighbourhood as thoughtful as a card
G D C
With a plastic baby Jesus in the yard

[Chorus]
G D C
And it was all and it was nothing at all
G D C G
And it was all and it was nothing at all

[Verse 2]
Bm Em C
What we didn't know, we didn't think to ask
G D C
The world was just a globe they used in class
G Bm Em C
Where the gym teacher was always mad, and as far as we could tell
G D C
He only exercised his right to yell

[Chorus]
G D C
And it was all and it was nothing at all
G D C G
And it was all and it was nothing at all

[Verse 3]
Bm Em C
As the kings of boredom, we ruled as we knew how
G D C
Or at least as long as our curfews would allow
G Bm Em C
Couple skates and love-sick songs, in moments without pause
G D C
Johnny Cougar amplified our cause

[Chorus]
G D C
And it was all and it was nothing at all
G D C G
And it was all and it was nothing at all

[Instrumental]
G Bm Em C G D C G

[Verse 4]
Bm Em C
We were the great believers, dreams came with stars
G D C
And freedom just depended on the car
G Bm Em C
Until one day the sky fell in and freedom lost control
G D C
And ran off the road and hit a pole

[Chorus]
G D C
And it was all and it was nothing at all
G D C
And it was all and it was nothing at all
G D C
And it was all and it was nothing at all
G D C G
And it was all, it was nothing at all

[Outro]
Bm Em C
Beneath the snow lies a dream that I once had
