Jon Troast

The Breakup Song

by Jon Troast
Jon Troast

Biography:

John Troast grew up in Lake Geneva, WI. The area attracts many tourists mostly from the Chicagoland area. Many people have secondary residences there and as a result the population nearly doubles in the summer time. Some of his songs reflect this concept.

Jon grew up in a family of nine with four adopted siblings and as he says in one of his songs he wouldn't have wanted it any other way. On his website he says coming from such a big and diverse family has definitely helped him see things from a lot of different perspectives.

Not 100% but pretty close.

C
I hope that no one finds you pretty
F
I hope that no one takes you home
G
‘Cause while I’m sitting in the dark
C G
It would be nice to know that you’re alone
C
I hope that no one hears you crying
F
Or if they do, that they don’t care
G
‘Cause when you handed me my heart
C C7
I spent a week just talking to the air

F G
And when your heart is broken
C Am
You want the whole world to be blue
F G C
I just want to know you’re hurting too

C
I hope you feel a little homesick
F
I hope your mother doesn’t call
G
‘Cause the only thing I have
C G
To comfort me is hanging on the wall
C
It’s my graduation picture
F
Proves I can make it on my own
G
But every other picture on the wall
C C7
Is proof I hate to be alone

F G
And when your heart is broken
C Am
You want the whole world to be blue
F G C
I just want to know you’re hurting too

C
A stairway to climb out of this pit
F
What use would that be
G C G
When all I want is you down here with me
C
I didn’t mean for you to hear this
F
But I’m kind of glad you did
G
Instead of saying we’re just friends
C G
Let’s tear it open and call it what it is
C
It’s a knife right through my rib cage
F
It’s a hammer to my head
G
It’s a miracle that I’m still standing up
C C7
When most of me is dead

F G
And when your heart is broken
C Am
You want the whole world to be blue
F G C
I just want to know you’re hurting too
