John Williamson Campfire on the road

[Verse]
C AM
Camping under the leopard wood As the sun goes down and the fire is good
F G C
Cause I've managed to find myself some brigalow
C AM
And it wouldn't be the same I know Contemplating the fire glow
F G C
Without my darlin' out here on the road
C AM
Now it's a very special thing To hear the little crickets sing
F G C
And there's no need to say another word
C AM
Just watch the campfire steal the show And let the inner feelings flow
F G C
Release the tension out here on the road

[Chorus]
AM F G C
We must never let 'em take this life away
AM F G C
Old stock routes belong to one and all
AM F G C AM
Drovers, dreamers all agree, poets, Aborigines
F G C
We have a right to light a campfire on the road

AM F G C AM F G C

[Verse]
C AM
Some people like a river bed With river gums high overhead
F G C
Unroll the swag on a drift of river sand
C AM
But me I search for different sites I'm not afraid of Min Min lights
F G C
And I welcome spirits out here on the road
C AM
And I welcome many signs I see In a land that's been so good to me
F G C
That lead me to the soul of inner man
C AM
And I can tell you there are days I see the earth in different ways
F G C
That keep me searching out here on the road

[Chorus]
AM F G C
We must never let 'em take this life away
AM F G C
Old stock routes belong to one and all
AM F G C AM
Drovers, dreamers all agree, poets, Aborigines
F G C
We have a right to light a campfire on the road
