[Intro]
E C#m A B (2x)

E C#m A B
I'm sure you must have thought sometimes while lying in the sticks,
E C#m A B
"What the hell am I doing here? I don't do this for kicks."
E A B
There's a peaceful town to the South of us, and a beach of sand and sun.
C#m G#m B E
It's you that fought to keep it, and troopie boy, you won.

[Verse]
B E B E
No matter what you're thinking and I know the cost is high.
B E A B
To go through all that hell on Earth, and see your best friend die.
G#m C#m A E
To feel the world's against you, and the headlines say you're done.
A B E
You slapped the devil in the face, and troopie boy, you won.

[Chorus]
E C#m A B
Although there are no flowers, and a victory parade.
E C#m A B
Prancing through the cities in fancy motorcade.
E A B
In God's eyes you're a hero, and I know the time will come.
C#m G#m B E
When the good things will get back to you, troopie boy, you won.

[Verse]
B E B E
No matter what you're thinking and I know the cost is high.
B E A B
To go through all that hell on Earth, and see your best friend die.
G#m C#m A E
To feel the world's against you, and the headlines say you're done.
A B E
You slapped the devil in the face, and troopie boy, you won.

[Chorus]
E C#m A B
In the world there is no justice, it's all a righteous face.
E C#m A B
But behind it is corruption that infests the human race.
E A B
You just keep your courage, and teach it to your son.
C#m G#m B E
Fight for what you know is right, and troopie boy, you won.

[Verse]
B E B E
No matter what you're thinking and I know the cost is high.
B E A B
To go through all that hell on Earth, and see your best friend die.
G#m C#m A E
To feel the world's against you, and the headlines say you're done.
A B E
You slapped the devil in the face, and troopie boy, you won.
