South had several hits in the late 1960s and early 1970s with songs such as "Don't It Make You Wanna Go Home" and "Walk a Mile in My Shoes". His biggest and most remembered single was "Games People Play" (1968), a Top 10 hit on both sides of the Atlantic. A D G
I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden

A D G
along with the sunshine there's gotta be a little rain sometime.

C A
When you take you gotta give so live and let live and let go oh oh oh oh

D G
I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden

G
1. I could promise you things like big diamond rings
2. I could sing you a tune and promise you the moon

A
1. but I don't find roses growin' on stalks of glover
2. but if that's what it takes to hold you I'd just as soon let you go

D
1. so you better think it over.
2. but there's one thing I want you to know.

G
1. When it's sweet talking you could make it come true
2. So look before you leap still waters run deep

A
1. I would give you the world right now on a silver platter
2. and there won't always be someone to pull you out.

D
1. but what would it matter.
2. And you know what I'm talking about.

A D E
So smile for a while and let's be jolly love shouldn't be so melancholy

A C D
Come along and share the good times while we can.
