Dont It Make You

by Joe South
Joe South

Biography:

South had several hits in the late 1960s and early 1970s with songs such as "Don't It Make You Wanna Go Home" and "Walk a Mile in My Shoes". His biggest and most remembered single was "Games People Play" (1968), a Top 10 hit on both sides of the Atlantic. It won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Song, the Grammy Award for Song of the Year, and which bears a striking resemblance to the children's gospel song, "I Don't Want to Be a Pharisee". Don't It Make You Want to Go Home chords
Joe South

G Am D G 2x

G Am
Don't it make you want to go home now?
D G
Don't it make you want to go home?
Am
All God's children get weary when they roam,
D G
don't it make you want to go home?
D G
Don't it make you want to go home?

G Am
Oh, the whippoorwill roosts on the telephone pole,
D G
when the Georgia sun goes down
Am
Well, it's been a long time but I'm glad to say, that I'm
D G
goin' back down to my home town
Am
Goin' down to the Greyhound station,
D G
gonna buy me a one way fare
Am
Good lord willin' and the creeks don't rise,
D G
by tomorrow I'll be right there

G Am
Don't it make you want to go home now?
D G
Don't it make you want to go home?
Am
All God's children get weary when they roam,
D G
don't it make you want to go home?
D G
Don't it make you want to go home?

Am
But there's a six-lane highway down by the creek,
D G
where I went skinny dippin' as a child
Am
And a drive-in show where the meadow used to grow,
D G
and the strawberries used to grow wild
Am
There's a drag strip down by the riverside,
D G
where my grandma's cow used to graze
Am
Now the grass don't grow and the river don't flow,
D G
like it did in my childhood days

G Am
Don't it make you want to go home now?
D G
Don't it make you want to go home?
Am
All God's children get weary when they roam,
D G
don't it make you want to go home?
D G
Don't it make you want to go home?

A Bm
Don't it make you want to go home now?
E A
Don't it make you want to go home?
Bm
All God's children get weary when they roam,
E A
God how I want to go home 3x
