[Verse 1]
C C7 F C
Oh, come hear my story of heartaches and sighs.
G7
I’m a prisoner who’s lonely for his moonlight and skies.
C F
I have a sweetheart who’s waiting for me
C G7 C
Back in old Oklahoma, not far from Shawnee.
F C
Her lips like the cherries. Her little heart cries,
G7 C
“Daddy, please come back to your moonlight and skies.”
F C
My pal’s name was Blacky, a lad with true heart.
G7 C
A robb’ry we planned, so decided to start.
F C
I went to my darling with tears in her eyes.
G7 C
She said, “Daddy, don’t leave me, your moonlight and skies.”
F C
I laughed at her pleading, youth must have it’s way,
G7 C
And said, ”I’ll be back in a couple of days.”

[Verse 2]
C C7 F C
The next scene was fatal, with a shot through his heart,
G7
For Blacky died sending love to his sweetheart.
C F
“Go tell her, go tell her, I send her my love.
C G7 C
I’ll meet her in heaven with the angels above.”
F C
That night I was captured out under the stars.
G7 C
Now I have life to linger behind these iron bars.
F C
You’ll find me at my window as the day slowly dies.
G7 C
I’m dreaming of my darling and my moonlight and skies.
F C
A pale moon is shining, is shining so bright,
G7 C
And lovers are strolling by my window tonight.
F C
Their laughter so merry brings heartaches and sighs
G7 C
To a pris’ner who’s lonely for the moonlight and skies.
