Jethro Tull

First Snow On Brooklyn

by Jethro Tull
Jethro Tull

Biography:

Jethro Tull is a progressive rock / folk rock band which formed in Blackpool, Lancashire, England in 1967. Their music is marked by the initially soulful and bluesy, and later expressively idiosyncratic, vocal style and unique lead flute work of frontman Ian Anderson, and their notable guitarist Martin Barre. Their songs feature unusual and often complex construction, incorporating elements of classical and celtic folk music, as well as art rock and alternative rock.

Gm F
I flew in on the evening plane
Gm F C
Is it such a good idea that I am here again?
Dm F C
And I could cut my cold breath with a knife
Dm F C Dm
And taste the winter of another life

Gm F
A yellow cab from JFK, the long way round
Gm F
I didn't mind... gave me thinking time before I ran aground
Dm F C
On rocky memories and choking tears
Dm F C Dm
I believe it only rained round here these thirty years

Eb Dm Bb Gm
Now, it's the first snow on Brooklyn and my cold feet are drumming
Cm Gm Bb F
You don't see me in the shadows from your cozy window frame
Eb Dm Bb Gm
And last night, who was in your parlour wrapping presents in the late hour
Cm Gm F
To place upon your pillow as the morning came?

Gm F
Thin wind stings my face... pull collar up
Gm F C
I could murder coffee in a grande cup
Dm F C
No welcome deli; there's no Starbucks here
Dm F C Dm
A dime for a quick phone call could cost me dear

Eb Dm Bb Gm
And the first snow on Brooklyn paints a Christmas card upon the pavement
Cm Gm Bb F
The cab leaves a disappearing trace and then it's gone
Eb Dm Bb Gm
And the snow covers my footprints, deep regrets and heavy heartbeats
Cm Gm F
When you wake you'll never see the spot that I was standing on

Some things are best forgotten... some are better half-remembered
Cm Gm Bb F
I just thought that I might be there on your, on your Christmas night
Eb Dm Bb Gm
And the first snow on Brooklyn makes a lonely road to travel
Cm Gm F
Cold crunch steps that echo as the blizzard bites
