Altar In Your Box

Lyrics: Taken from the everything was beautiful liner notes
Music: Scott Holcomb ([email protected])

Am G F
Here along the roadside
Am G F
I brought nails and wood and paint
Am G F
I've had a little trouble
Am G F
Deciding on a saint
Am G F
A cross from Ensanada
Am G F
In the dark it's supposed to glow
Am G F
Some beads I bought in Garberville
Am G F
Another life ago

G F
Out here on the highway
G F
I build your altar in your box
G F
Some shelter when its raining
Am G
Some shade for when its not
Am G F
It's not

Am G F
Though red would probably suit you
Am G F
I think I'll just paint it white
Am G F
It's the color of the virgin
Am G F
She's my beacon in the night
Am G F
A statue of St. Francis
Am G F
He holds a little lamb
Am G F
And answers to a question
Am G F
So much bigger than I am

G F
Out here on the highway
G F
It's your altar in your box
G F
Some shelter when its raining
Am G
Some shade for when its not

F C G
At your altar in your box
F C G
At your altar in your box
F C G
The women throw Hail Mary's
C Am G
At your altar in your box

Am G F
At last I will hang a rosary
Am G F
That my father gave to me
Am G F
From olive trees in Lebanon
Am G F
Some personal history
Am G F
And I won't include your photograph
Am G F
Or carve your name in stone
Am G F
So the women who bring flowers
Am G F
Can make your box their own

G F
Out here on the highway
G F
It's your altar in your box
G F
Some shelter when its raining
Am G
Some shade for when its not

G F
And I will light a candle
G F
And say a prayer for you
G F
So that I will not feel guilty
Am G
On the nights that I drive through

F C G
At your altar in your box
F C G
At your altar in your box
F C G
The big wheels keep on rolling
C Am G
By your altar in your box

F C G
At your altar in your box
F C G
At your altar in your box
F C G
The truckers all salute you
C Am G
In your altar in your box

F C G
At your altar in your box
F C G
At your altar in your box
F C G
You just might find me kneeling
C Am G
By your altar in your box

Am G F
As I sit beside the water
Am G F
And watch the men rake rocks
Am G F
I trust that you'll be happy
Am G F
In your altar in your box
