Old Beat Up Guitar
By Jerry Jeff Walker

D D7
Well I found her in a pawn shop
G D
Somewhere up in Ohio
Bm
Where I guess some rounder came up short
E7 A
And he had to let her go
D D7
Cost me ninety dollars
G D
But its worth much more by far
Bm
Cause I've never had a better friend
A D
Than that old beat up guitar

[Chorus]
G A
Didn't look like too much(Ab slide-> A)
D G
Just a Roy Smeck Stage De luxe
D
But a lady she never fared as well
A D
Who travelled through so much

D D7
She travelled with me always
G D
Through the alleys and the bars
Bm
Songs I sang and friends I knew
E7 A
Were part of that guitar
D D7
At nights she was my pillow
G D
Restin' underneath the stars
Bm
Day and night I stayed alive
A D
With that old beat up guitar

[Repeat Chorus]
D D7
She picked up the name of Angel
G D
In an old New Orleans bar
Bm
Where a drunken poet drew one on
E7 A
The top of that guitar
D D7
Ol' Babe Stovall he marked her

[Instrumental]
C D E F G A B
D E F# G A B C#
Example: where you see a "G" below, change it to a "F" and so on...

G D
Scratched the songs right from his heart
Bm
Seems everyone there used to scar
A D
That old beat up guitar
Repeat Chorus
D D7
Well a ramblin' man he has trouble
G D
Hangin' on to all that he owns
Bm
And in those years of travellin'
E7 A
That gui tar fell by the road
D D7
The one night in New Mexico
G D
I stumbled into this bar
Bm
The Angel lay there smilin'
A D
On that old beat up guitar

[Chorus]Repeat Chorus][
D D7
I took her from the wall
G D
Ran my hands across the scars
Bm
Played again the old songs
E7 A
That were written on that gui tar
D D7
Friends I'd loved and lost
G D
Many nights inside of the bar
Bm
Came back so clearly singin'
A D
On that old beat up gui tar
