[Verse 1]
C Am G Em
When I was young, I wanted to be Jon
C Am G Em
It wasn’t hard, short hair, no curves to speak of
C Am G Em
I could do things I couldn’t do as Jen
C Am G Em
Ride bikes with boys, kiss girls and make some noise
C Am G Em
C Am G Em

[Verse 2]
C Am G Em
I grew to be a young lady
C Am G Em
Catholic Girls School, will try to do that to you
C Am G Em
Never fit in, to love was to live in sin
C Am G Em
So I stood out, I was born to let it out
C Am G Em
C Am G Em

[Chorus 1]
C Em
This world, it wasn’t made for women
C Am Em
You know even before you bleeding
C Am Em
I’m sorry, can’t you hear me speaking?
C Am Em
How is it now, now that I’m screaming?

[Verse 3]
C Am G Em
I know, I am a strong woman
C Am G Em
Never questioned my strength, it was passed on
C Am G Em
Proud my mother wanted respect more than love
C Am G Em C Am G Em
And her mother taught her that she could want for more
C Am G Em

[Chorus 2]
C Am Em
This world, it wasn’t made for women
C Am Em
You know even before you bleeding
C Am Em
I’m sorry, can’t you hear me speaking?
C Am Em
How is it now, now that I’m screaming?

[Verse 4]
C Am G Em
I know, I am a strong woman
C Am G Em
Never questioned my strength, it was passed on
C Am G Em
Proud my mother wanted respect more than love
C Am G Em (mute)
Kia kaha, be proud, stay strong, go on
