Jeffrey Foucault

Dove And The Waterline

by Jeffrey Foucault
Jeffrey Foucault

Biography:

Jeffrey Foucault (born January 1976 in Janesville, Wisconsin) is an American singer-songwriter grown out of the americana/folk troubadour tradition. Foucault's musical career was seeded at seventeen, when he began playing John Prine tunes on his father's beat up mail-order guitar, and spent long evenings in his bedroom, spinning piles of old records on a hand-me-down turntable. When he was 18 he stole a copy of Townes Van Zandt: Live and Obscure from a friend

[INTRO:] Am

[VERSE 1]
C
Wrote you a song

From under the sky
G F Am
From the field where the snow fell down

The town threw up its light
C
Against the clouds into the night
G F Am
Like a wall to keep the flood from bearing down

[CHORUS]

C
And I said, hello
G
Can you help me, do you know
F Am
What I'm doing, can you tell me where I'm bound
C
The stars all have names
G
And the angels have the same
F Am
But I'm lost and I so much wanna be found

[VERSE 2]

C
And I wrote you a prayer

From inside these walls
G F Am
In my country where the cold wind blows

The storm into the sea
C
Rang out against man's every plea
G F Am
To rouse my soul and seal my body down below

[CHORUS]

C
And I said, hello
G
Can you help me, do you know
F Am
What I'm doing, can you tell me where I'm bound
C
I'm cast away
G
Into the deep and compassed there
F Am
No soul to keep afire and to the waters, burning down

[CHORUS]

C
And I said, hello
G
Can you help me, do you know
F Am
What I'm doing, can you tell me where I'm bound
C
The stars all have names
G
And the angels have the same
F Am
But I'm lost and I wanna be found

[INSTRUMENTAL:] Am C G F Am (2x)

[VERSE 3]

C
Wrote you a song

From under the sky
G F Am
From the field where the snow fell down

The town threw up its light
C
Against the clouds into the night
G F Am
Like a wall to keep the flood from bearing down

[OUTRO] Am
