James Keelaghan

The Flower Of Magherally

by James Keelaghan
James Keelaghan

Biography:

James Keelaghan is a Juno award-winning Canadian folk singer-songwriter born in Calgary, Alberta, now based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Many of his songs, such as "Kiri's Piano", about the interment of Japanese Canadians, "October 70", about the FLQ crisis, are inspired by events and figures in Canadian history. Known for his lilting baritone voice, his driving rhythm guitar, and a keen sense of scene and narrative, Keelaghan’s music bridges traditional folk music with Canadiana.

INTRO: Am G F C Am G F (2x)

Am G F C Am
One pleasant summer's morning
G F Am
When all the flowers were springing-o
G F C
Nature was adorning
Am G F
And the small birds sweetly singing-o
C G E7
I met my love by Banbridge Town
Am E
My darling blue eyed Sally-o
Am G Em
She's the star of the County Down
E7 Am
The flower of Magherally-o

G F C Am
And with admiration I did gaze
G F Am
Upon this blue eyed maiden-o
G F C
Adam wasn't half so pleased
Am G F
When he met Eve in Eden-o
C G E7
Her skin was like the lily white
Am E
That grows in yonder valley-o
Am G Em
She's my queen and my heart's delight
E7 Am
The flower of Magherally-o

G F C Am
Her dark red hair in ringlets clung
G F
Her boots were Spanish leather-o
Am G F C Am
Ribbons from her bonnet hung
G F
Her scarlet cap and feather-o
C G E7
Like Venus bright she did appear
Am E
My darling blue eyed Sally-o
Am G Em
She's the girl that I love dear
E7 Am
The flower of Magherally-o

G F C Am
And I hope the day will surely come
G F
We'll join hands together-o
Am G F C
And I will bring my darling home
Am G F
In spite of wind or weather-o
C G E7
And let them all say what they will
Am E
And let them reel and rally-o
Am G Em
For I will wed the girl I love
E7 Am
The flower of Magherally-o
