James Keelaghan

Safe Home

by James Keelaghan
James Keelaghan

Biography:

James Keelaghan is a Juno award-winning Canadian folk singer-songwriter born in Calgary, Alberta, now based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Many of his songs, such as "Kiri's Piano", about the interment of Japanese Canadians, "October 70", about the FLQ crisis, are inspired by events and figures in Canadian history. Known for his lilting baritone voice, his driving rhythm guitar, and a keen sense of scene and narrative, Keelaghan’s music bridges traditional folk music with Canadiana.

If I don't write, I don't call
C G
Don't mean I don't miss you at all
C
The road is long, road is hard
Am
Rather be in your backyard
D Em
Time enough for you and me
D Am
Friends drop by and family
D
Wish them all goodnight
G
Safe home

INSTRUMENTAL: G C G C G

C
When I awake, well past dawn
G
Time to move this day along
C
Check the oil, fill her up
Am
The morning news, coffee cup
D
Gypsy souls and refugees
Em D Am
Cars on the road and ships at sea
D
Wish them all good luck
G
Safe home

When I've gone, I think you'll pine

Sometimes I might come to mind

When that happens, I presume

You tell me all about your day
D Am
Who you saw and what you say
D
Whisper soft goodnight

Safe home
