James Keelaghan

Mirabeau Bridge

by James Keelaghan
James Keelaghan

Biography:

James Keelaghan is a Juno award-winning Canadian folk singer-songwriter born in Calgary, Alberta, now based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Many of his songs, such as "Kiri's Piano", about the interment of Japanese Canadians, "October 70", about the FLQ crisis, are inspired by events and figures in Canadian history. Known for his lilting baritone voice, his driving rhythm guitar, and a keen sense of scene and narrative, Keelaghan’s music bridges traditional folk music with Canadiana.

James Keelaghan - Mirabeau Bridge

CAPO: 2nd Fret

G G/F# G/E G/D C C/B Am
I went down to see the morning, when the curtains all were drawn
D D/C D/B D/A G C G C
And the sidewalk cafés empty, and the laughing voices gone
G C D
From some upstairs window, in the cold and grey of dawn
C D G C G D G Gsus/C
Came the fa-ded sound of somebody who played my song

CHORUS:
G D C G
I had a dream and I gave it a name
C D G D
The name that I gave it was your name
G D C G
I had a dream and I gave it a name
C D G D G Gsus/C
The name that I gave it was you-our name

G G/F# G/E G/D C C/B Am
I was fighting phantom windmills, made of nothing left to do
D D/C D/B D/A G C G
But live among the shadows, of the days I made it through
C G C D
Full of lies and false pretences, that tomorrow would be new
C D G C G D G Gsus/C
And it was, because, just like a dream I discov-ered you

CHORUS:
G D C G
I had a dream and I gave it a name
C D G D
The name that I gave it was your name
G D C G
I had a dream and I gave it a name
C D G D G Gsus/C
The name that I gave it was you-our name

INSTRUMENTAL:

G G/F# G/E G/D C C/B Am
The Mirabeau Bridge is crowded, with the ones who love the night
D D/C D/B D/A G C G
And the river laughing endlessly, like the wild café life
C G C D
Spoke words in every language, that crossed the candlelight
C D G C G D G Gsus/C
That shines like love in the eyes that I need tonight

CHORUS:
G D C G
I had a dream and I gave it a name
C D G D
The name that I gave it was your name
G D C G
I had a dream and I gave it a name
C D G D G Gsus/C
The name that I gave it was you-our name
