James Keelaghan

House Of Cards

by James Keelaghan
James Keelaghan

Biography:

James Keelaghan is a Juno award-winning Canadian folk singer-songwriter born in Calgary, Alberta, now based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Many of his songs, such as "Kiri's Piano", about the interment of Japanese Canadians, "October 70", about the FLQ crisis, are inspired by events and figures in Canadian history. Known for his lilting baritone voice, his driving rhythm guitar, and a keen sense of scene and narrative, Keelaghan’s music bridges traditional folk music with Canadiana.

James Keelaghan - House Of Cards

CAPO: 3rd Fret

INTRO: F C G Am (4x)

F C G Am
Easy credit, no money down
F C G Am
That's the way that we built this town
F C G Am
The banker's ledger, we watched it rise
F C G Am
A house of cards and a pack of lies
F C G Am F C G Am
A house of cards and a pack of lies

F C G Am
Rung by rung they raised the stakes
F C G Am
You bend the rules and the batter breaks
F C G Am
We all get wealthy, but will we ever get wise
F C G Am
To the house of cards and a pack of lies
F C G Am F C G Am
A house of cards and a pack of lies

F C G Am
They sold you plastic and took your ace
F C G Am
The suits and ties and the joker's face
F C G Am
And now there's nowhere left to hide
F C G Am
Than a house of cards and a pack of lies
F C G C
A house of cards and a pack of lies

INSTRUMENTAL: C G Am F C G Am F C G Am F C G Am

F C G Am
The times were easy, we did the deal
F C G Am
We placed out bets, but they spun the wheel
F C G Am
And we should have known there was no prize
F C G Am
But a house of cards and a pack of lies
F C G Am
A house of cards and a pack of lies

INTERLUDE: F C G Am F C G Am

F C G Am
Smoke and mirrors, the market crash
F C G Am
We burnt it down to stone and ash
F C G Am
We lit the fires of our own demise
F C G Am
In the house of cards and a pack of lies
F C G C
In the house of cards and a pack of lies

INTERLUDE: F C G Am F C G Am

F C G Am
We bought that dream and we sold it on
F C G Am
But it ain't worth nothing, now the money's gone
F C G Am
The only shelter that credit buys
F C G Am
Is a house of cards and a pack of lies
F C G Am
A house of cards and a pack of lies
