Iration

One Way Track

by Iration
Iration

Biography:

A roots reggae band composed by three brothers begins in the heart of the Caribbean, which marks the spiritual birth of their group. Their family arrived on the island of Montserrat in the West Indies on October of 1973 as political exiles of the Pinochet government and in 1981 they migrated to the United States of America. Iration was born in early 1983 and their first performance was at Ramapo High School's Talent Show in 1986. They eventually

Four years of hard work!

This month of May we celebrated four years on the air. We continue working on the dissemination of this wonderful instrument, thank you for participating in our story!

Super easy and sounds great.

About the strum pattern: I play this song with what I think of as a "typical" reggae finger picking
pattern.
The root note is played with the thumb, then the pointer finger flicks down quickly to play the rest of the
chord. Immediately after that, the strings are muted with the palm and the fingers on the fretboard release
pressure to stop the strings from buzzing. This creates a crisp stop.
F: In this song, after playing the F chord three times the "typical" way, on the fourth time before switching
to Am, there's a twist. The thumb plays the root note AND the string below, then the pointer finger flicks
both down and up.
Am: Am is played with the typical pattern once, then the second time before transitioning to Em, the pointer
finger flicks both down and up.
Em: Hit Em with the typical pattern twice. Now head back to F and repeat until the bridge.
The bridge has different chords (Dm and C) but is still played with the typical pattern.

It takes work to train your fingers to move like this, but it will serve you well if you're learning other
reggae-type songs. You're also developing new neuronal circuits in your brain, so go you.

The best practice is to listen to the song a bunch and keep trying, even when it feels like you'll never get
it. Here's an acoustic version of the song. Good luck!

F Am Em
Smoke trails and old wives' tales whispered in the hills where the west was won
F Am Em
It's been a long time coming can't tell where I start and where I am done
F
Maybe it's best if we stop thinking
Am Em
Lately I feel my doubt sinking
F Am Em
You're not sure but my heart is pure and I gotta let you know something

F
My love is a one way track
Am Em
We can hop aboard and not look back
F
My love can hurt or set you free
Am Em
Just turn a blind eye to reality

My love can
F
Love is a one way track
Am Em
Speeding down the rails and I can't turn back
F
My love can't give you guarantees
Am Em
Just close your eyes and come with me

F Am Em
I've always been the one lost in a dream when I should've been serious
F Am Em
You've always been the type to hold back even though you were curious
F
Maybe it's best if we stop drinking
Am Em
But we can never let the doubt sink in
F Am Em
I'm not sure and it might be the cure but I gotta let you know something

F
My love is a one way track
Am Em
We can hop aboard and not look back
F
My love can hurt or set you free
Am Em
Just turn a blind eye to reality

My love can
F
Love is a one way track
Am Em
Speeding down the rails and I can't turn back
F
My love can't give you guarantees
Am Em
Just close your eyes and come with me

Dm
We're too far gone
C
It's too right to go wrong
Dm
So get on board
C
Whatever you feel you act on
Dm
It's a one way track
C
And no we can't turn back
Dm
Headed out straight never hesitate
C
And I don't have to tell you that

F
My love is a one way track
Am Em
We can hop aboard and not look back
F
My love can hurt or set you free
Am Em
Just turn a blind eye to reality

My love can
F
Love is a one way track
Am Em
Speeding down the rails and I can't turn back
F
My love can't give you guarantees
Am Em
Just close your eyes and come with me
