Ian Dury and the Blockheads

Im Partial To Your Abracadabra

by Ian Dury and the Blockheads
Ian Dury and the Blockheads

Biography:

Ian Dury and the Blockheads were one of the most popular groups of the New Wave era in the U.K. in the 70s and early 80s. Their eclectic sound was drawn from their many musical influences; these included funk, jazz, rock and roll, soul, and reggae, not to mention leader Ian Dury's love of music hall. Dury's lyrics were a unique combination of lyrical poetry, word play, acute observation of British everyday life, and scatalogical humour. As the Blockheads, the band continued to play after Dury's untimely death in 2000.

-------------------------------------.............................

*from 'New Boots and Panties!!' (1977)*

Intro:

B, B A

Verse 1:

B B A
I'm partial to your abracadabra;
G D E
En-raptured by the joy of it all.
F# D#7 G#m
So stop me where you start, the cockles of his heart,
D C#7 B
The panties sends it right up the wall.

Verse 2:

B B A
Please, please, stop it; it likes it,
G D E
Tickles it to death either way.
F# D#7 G#m
These lovely boots exist, to drive it round the twist;
D C#7 B
The call of nature must be o-beyed.

Chorus 1:

B A B A E7
Glad it's over, but this is worse.
B A B A
Could hardly say, it had been co-erced.
G7 F#7
Stop it cos it likes it, it's worse.

Verse 3:

B B A
I'm partial to your abracadabra;
G D E
The unforeseen e-rogenous zones.
F# D#7 G#m
Stop, it insists; slap it with your wrists;
D C#7 B
It likes it when you leave it a-lone.

Solo:

G, B A, G D E, F#, D#7 G#m, D C#7 B

Verse 4:

B B A
There's been a manifestation;
G D E
Nature made it answer the call.
F# D#7 G#m
It simply can't resist, boots and pants like this;
D C#7 B
Abraca-dabra for all.

Chorus 2:

B A B A E7
Glad it's over, but this is worse.
B A B A
Roll it over; too per-verse,
G7 F#7
Stop it cos it likes it, it's worse.

Coda:

B B A
I'm partial to your abracadabra,
B B A
I'm partial to your abracadabra.
B B A
I'm partial to your abracadabra,
B B A
I'm partial to your abracadabra.

(Repeat to Fade)
