Hey Rosetta!

The Simplest Thing

by Hey Rosetta!
Hey Rosetta!

Biography:

Hey Rosetta! was a Canadian seven-piece indie rock band from the northeastern province of Newfoundland and led by singer and songwriter Tim Baker. The band announced in October 2017 that they would be taking an indefinite hiatus

In 2005, frontman Baker arrived home from a road trip with a suitcase full of poems and melodies. Hey Rosetta! was formed soon after with the addition of a string section (cellist Romesh Thavanathan and violinist Kinley Dowling) and rhythm section (bassist Josh Ward, drummer Phil Maloney, and guitarist Adam Hogan).

I love this song, and i'm almost 100% sure this is right.
Comments and corrections welcome.

C Bdim7
the rain starts off and it wakes you up
E Am C F
you can't sleep with that racket on the roof
C Bdim7
you get up slow but you can't get going
E Am C F
it seems this morning the lowness has won
C G E
did you stop to see? mediocrity and your self pity,
Am C F
they were stealing a kiss, look at their lips, still shiny
C G
did you notice that happiness
E Am C F
happens less the more often you stop to find where it's been hiding
C G
you say, "it's not my fault that i get so low
E Am
there's a weight on my soul that just keeps pulling me down,
C F
it's pulling me down, i swear it"

Am G C F
so come on by my house and unleash me your monsters
Am G C F
with you at the healm we'll go crashing around together
Am G C F
and don't mistake some initial hate for something more than cautionary
Am G C F
cause baby this is love, i'll come down to hell to keep you company

Am F C G
of all the days we've got we should be screaming out...
Am F C G
of all the days we've got we should be screaming out...
Am F C G
of all the days we've got we should be singing...

C G Am F x2 (For this whole section you can use G's instead of F's wherever you want)

C G Am
what's to be done? one hundred and one
F C
in a tent for twelve with fingers and elbows
G Am
in innocent ribs, we're minding our business
F C
we're just minding our business instead of minding our minds
G Am
in times when the storms will ravage your clothes,
F C
the sound and the colour could render you blind
G Am
and the throes of a nightmare can sing you to sleep
F C
then some foreign machine wakes you up at a mean hour
G Am
but heaven is there, under your hair,
F C
it hides in the noon noise way up in the air
G Am
like a bird on the breeze
F C
waiting for you and maybe me too

C G Am F x2

C G Am
whats there to do? one hundred and two
F C
are out on the doorstep and they're pushing the bolts back
G Am
they're wanting in, they're humming our hymn
F
everybodys singing like beautiful birds...
C G Am F
everybodys singing like beautiful birds...
C G Am F
everybodys singing like beautiful birds...
C G Am F
in the trees, listen to it, it's easy man, you can do it too
C G Am F
sing: i know what i want
C G Am F
i know what i need

cause it's the simplest thing...

C G Am F x2

(stop subbing G's for F's)

Am F C G
of all the nights we've got we should be stepping out...
Am F C G
of all the nights we've got we should be stepping out...
Am F C G
of all the nights we touch we should be swinging around from house to house

C G
if i could cheer you up it would mean so much,
E Am G F
clowns in love and laughing it off, laughing it off, laughing it off
C G
you say, "its not my fault that i get so low
E Am C
but to drown you too, that's a sick way to love, it's a sick way to love,
F
it's a fucking sick way to love"
