Heart of My Country
by Greg Brown,
Standard Tuning

[Intro]
G D G - G D G

[Verse]
G C
When I was a child I heard music
G D
And I knew that it was coming from me too
G C
Now everywhere I go I hear some kind of music
G D G
I don't know where it's coming from, do you?

G C
And I used to sit by the dim radio window
G D
Waiting for the magic hour to start
G C
You can take the heart out of my country
G D G
You can't take the country out of my heart

G C
Well there comes a time when we all have to travel
G D
Some to look for home and some to hide
G C
There was a war at home and a war across the ocean
G D G
Families were split from the inside

G C
And we stood there holding hands, signs and candles
G D
But soon enough our hands all had to part
G C
You can take the heart out of this country
G D G
But you can't take the country out of your heart

G C
Well, it's more than cities, fields and mountains
G D
More than a place to view the farming man
G C
And everyday I want to thank all the angels
G D G
That it's more than its congress and its president

G C
And I long to hear the music of its choir
G D
When everyone shall stand and sing their part
G C
And we can keep the heart in our country
G D G
And we can keep the country in our heart
G D G
And we can keep the country in our heart
