Gram Parsons

November Nights

by Gram Parsons
Gram Parsons

Biography:

Gram Parsons (November 5, 1946 – September 19, 1973) was an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and pianist born Ingram Cecil Connor, III. A solo artist as well as a member of The International Submarine Band, The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers, he is best known for a series of recordings which anticipate the country rock of the 1970s and the alt-country movement that began in the 80s. Parsons was a close friend of Keith Richards and is also credited for turning the Rolling Stones onto country music in their 'Let it Bleed'-era.

Four years of hard work!

This month of May we celebrated four years on the air. We continue working on the dissemination of this wonderful instrument, thank you for participating in our story!

The original is played in B. I find it easier to sing in G, but feel free to transpose to the original.

Verse:

D C G
You say that you're restless, you say that you know me too well

D C G
You've seen all my best and you've heard all the stories I tell

D C D D/C D/B
You think you've been taken for granted, you're probably right
(begin 3/4)

G C D G
Still I remember a November Night,
Bm C D G
When the dawn on your doorway shone white with frost
G Cm G
And the soft love that always began with the touch of your hand
D C G D G
And recall the mornings that tossed your hair in the wind.

(back to 4)

D C G
Time's made it meaningless, I'm insecure, you can tell
D C G
But why am I leaving unless time had only meant well?
D C D D/C D/B
There's nothing left now to excite you, no reason to try.

Chorus:

G C D G
Still I remember a candlelit sky
Bm C D G
And the summer surrounding the ground where you and I lay
G Cm G
And though we were always alone with our secrets known,
D C G D G
We both were aware and afraid our closeness might end.

D C G
My love's like a dancer, she weaves through the dangers complete
D C G
Her well rehearsed answers with rational reasons for feet.
D C D D/C D/B
And if it decreases or ceases to always seem right

Chorus:

G C D G
I'll just remember a November Night,
Bm C D G
When the dawn on your doorway shone white with frost
G Cm G
And the soft love that always began with the touch of your hand
D C G D G
And recall the mornings that tossed your hair in the wind.
