Big Mouth Blues

Gram Parsons

Biography:

Gram Parsons (November 5, 1946 – September 19, 1973) was an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and pianist born Ingram Cecil Connor, III. A solo artist as well as a member of The International Submarine Band, The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers, he is best known for a series of recordings which anticipate the country rock of the 1970s and the alt-country movement that began in the 80s. Parsons was a close friend of Keith Richards and is also credited for turning the Rolling Stones onto country music in their 'Let it Bleed'-era.

[Intro]
A D A D

[Verse 1]
D
Oh, well, I was born in a little bitty tar hut
G7
And they called me a man 'cause I couldn't keep my big, big mouth shut
D
So what's the sense of me sitting here leaving when any ole day I might be even
G7 D
And Lord knows that New York City's got a lot to do with it
G D
I wish someday I could find the way to get it out of my grain
G D
This dirty old town's gonna sink right down and I don't want to go with it
A
Well I wish there was a way that I knew to get even
A
A way to get a lick in, a bobbin' and a weavin'
A D
Any ole thing besides goin' and a leavin', you can do on a train

[Verse 2]
D
Well, I once knew a man who sailed around the world twice
G7
He would have made it three but he took a lot of bad advice
D
So you just tell me what's the sense of me sittin' here leavin' when any ol day I might get even
G D
And Lord knows New York City's got a lot to do with it
G D
I wish someday I could find a way to get it out of my brain
G D
This dirty old town's gonna sink right down and I don't want to go with it
A
I wish there was a way that I knew to get even
A
Way to get a lick in a 'bobbin' and a'weavin'
A D
Any ole thing besides goin' and a'leavin' you can do on a train, oh, yes

[Verse 3]
D
Well, I once knew a man who sailed around the world twice
G
But his motor cooled down and now he's deliverin' ice
D
Tell me what's the sense of him sittin' here leavin' when any ole day he might get even
G D
And Lord knows New York City's got a lot to do with it
G D
I wish someday he could find a way to get it out of his brain
G D
This dirty old town's gonna sink right down and I don't want to go with it
A
I wish there was a way that I knew to get even
A
Way to get a lick in a 'bobbin and a'weavin'
A D
And all the things besides goin' and a 'leavin' you can do on a train, oh, yeah
