Marigolden

Field Report

Biography:

Field Report is an American folk band formed in 2011 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The band is led by singer/songwriter Christopher Porterfield (a form member of the Justin Vernon-led band DeYarmond Edison.

Field Report, an anagram of Porterfield's surname, was culled together in the studio while recording their 2012 self-titled debut. They suddenly found themselves championed by their former idols: offered support tours by Counting Crows and Aimee Mann, lauded by the likes of Mark Eitzel and Richard Thompson, and covered by Blind Boys Of Alabama.

VERSE:
G C G
I left Nebraska in a summer dress
Am G
Left him behind there to straighten out his head

Jane was working for the airline
C G
And she bumped me up to business

She feels the thrill of every liftoff
Am G
In her heart and chest

VERSE:
G
She smelled like saffron
C G
And glowed gold and rust
D G
Years ago I loved Jane Harmony once

But the fall fell from August
C G
And the petals all dropped off
D G
We're always finding old lives to run away from

CHORUS:
C D Em D
And I, I started to believe it
C D Em D
And I, I started to believe it

VERSE:
G C G
Thirty thousand feet I am seated by a surgeon,

Said he fixed the dicks of Shahs’ sons
Am G
Who want to be western.

Jane caught me roll my eyes

And we made up constellations
D G
Of unicorns with the Roman candle horn approximations

CHORUS:
C D Em D
And I, I started to believe it
C D Em D G
And I, I started to believe it

VERSE:
G
And the voice of God came on

Cautioning the wind

And Jane strapped in

Looked into my eyes

And I watched us fall breathless,

Cascading over nothing

And I was feeling marigolden

Gliding to the ground
