Eric Carmen (former vocalist of The Raspberries) is a pop/rock musician and singer-songwriter well known for his first single "All By Myself" (released in 1976) and his 1987 comeback single "Hungry Eyes" (written by J. DeNicola and F. Previte for the iconic 'Dirty Dancing' soundtrack). The former, a smooth ballad, was penned by Carmen based on a classical theme by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Desperate Fools by Eric Carmen

C6add9 is just depressing the C on the B string and hitting all the other strings open.

[Verse 1]
G C G
I've been up too high, I've been down too low
G Bm C G
I've been searchin' for somethin' with nowhere to go
C Bm Em
Thought I'd make it alone but I'm so far from home
A7 C6add9 G
In a town full of desperate fools

[Verse 2]
G C G
Oh, the sun beats down on the L.A. scene
G Bm C G
But you can't feel the cold when the grass looks so green
C Bm Em
And the games that I've played were not worth what I paid
A7 C6add9 G
In a town full of desperate fools

[Bridge]
C D Bm Em
I've been takin' my life one day at a time
C D B Em
Tryin' to piece it all together but I know in my mind
A7 Bm Em
That I'm startin' to be what they want me to be
A7 D
And I wonder sometimes what's becoming of me

[Instrumental Break]

[Bridge]
C D Bm Em
I've been takin' my life one day at a time
C D B Em
Tryin' to piece it all together but I know in my mind
A7 Bm Em
That I'm startin' to be what they want me to be
A7 D
And I wonder sometimes what's becoming of me

[Final Verse]
G C G
'Cause I've been up too high, I've been down too low
G Bm C G
I've been searchin' for somethin' with nowhere to go
C B B7 Em
And I suppose it's been fun but I guess I'm just one
A7 C6add9 Gdim A7 C6add9 G
In a town full of desperate fools, a town full of desperate fools
