Elle King

Americas Sweetheart

by Elle King
Elle King

Biography:

Elle King is an anti-folk artist.

Born in Ohio and raised in Brooklyn by her mother (after separating from her father, comedian Rob Schneider), she retains her roots in a style that blends those two worlds of both grit and mid-western charm. She often draws comparisons to Billie Holiday, Duffy, Regina Spektor and Adele. Miss King cites old blues, rock n' roll, and greats like Johnny Cash as her biggest influences.

Featured in an issue of Love magazine and February's V Magazine as well as creating buzz amongst music bloggers everywhere.

This song is played fairly fast, very old style country, but is defiant in its
meaning.Listen to how they play
the rhythm. Super fun!!! It’s a great song. The most important thing to remember is
to just have fun and sing
it like you don’t care!!!

Elle King - Americas Sweetheart

[Intro]

G

[Verse]

G
No there ain't nothing that I gotta prove
You think your words will make me black and blue
But I,
C
I think I’m pretty with these old boots on
I think its funny when I drink too much, hey
G
You try and change me you can go to hell
Cause I don't want to be nobody else
C
I like the chip I got in my front teeth
And I got bad tattoos you won't believe

So
G
Kick out the jams, kick up the soul
Pour another glass of that rock and roll
Turn up the band, fire in the hole
Gonna lose control tonight

[Chorus]

C Em D C Em D
What do you want from me, I'm not America’s sweetheart
C Em D C Em D
So beat the drum with me, I'm not America’s sweetheart
C Em D
Well they say I'm too loud for this town
C Em D
So I lit a match and burned it down
C Em D C
What do you want from me, I'm not Americas sweet heart
Em D G
But you love me anyway

[Verse]

G
My hands are dirty and my heart is cold the boys
I've been with say I got no soul, when I,
C
I meet another honey at the bar,
I'll think its funny when I break his heart, mmm now,
G
My kind of medicine is whiskey straight,
I got a mouth to put you in your place, and they,
C
They said I'll never be the poster type,
But they don't make posters of my kind of life

G
So kick out the jams, kick up the soul
Pour another glass of that rock and roll
Turn up the band, fire in the hole
Gonna lose control tonight

[Chorus]

C Em D C Em D
What do you want from me, I'm not America’s sweetheart
C Em D C Em D
So beat the drum with me, I'm not America’s sweetheart
C Em D
Well they say I'm too loud for this town
C Em D
So I lit a match and burned it down
C Em D C
What do you want from me, I'm not Americas sweet heart
Em D G
But you love me anyway
Em D G
You love me anyway
Em D G
You love me anyway

[Verse]

G
Kick out the jams, kick up the soul
Pour another glass of that rock and roll
Turn up the band, fire in the hole, holler if you ready,
Gonna lose control

G
Kick out the jams, kick up the soul
Pour another glass of that rock and roll
Turn up the band, fire in the hole,
Gonna lose control tonight

[Chorus]

C Em D C Em D
What do you want from me, I'm not America’s sweetheart
C Em D C Em D
So beat the drum with me, I'm not America’s sweetheart
C Em D
Well they say I'm too loud for this town
C Em D
So I lit a match and burned it down
C Em D C
What do you want from me, I'm not Americas sweet heart
Em D G
But you love me anyway
Em D G
You love me anyway
Em D G
You love me anyway
